When Jesus goes through our ranks, his finger touches one or another, and he singles us out and names us. He judges and heals and forgives us. The more clearly we allow ourselves to be touched – the more we are in agreement with being named and singled out – the more strength comes to us from his hand. We become nothing and he becomes everything.
May God heal us for this through the laying-on of hands of Jesus Christ. May he heal us of all sin and bondage, of all unfaithfulness and wavering uncertainty, of all anxiety and fear, of all sickness and weakness, of all hindrance and inhibition, of all self-seeking and egotism, of all our own nature and self-conceit.
May he heal us and free us from Satan and all his demons and evil spirits; from the principalities who rule in the atmosphere, and in this world.
May he unburden and release us from all that oppresses us. May he make us free and joyful in the power of his Gospel of all Creation. May he make us strong in his Holy Spirit, through the pouring-out of his gifts and powers. May he unite us and give us confidence in the worship of his greatness.
May he protect us so that human holiness and self-importance never rise up among us; and so that we never make ourselves important – also not through self-abasement and humiliation.
May he protect us from failing to take sin seriously, but also from the judgmental spirit that arises from religious pride. That must never be tolerated among us.
Finally, may he protect us and guide us on the holy way through the perfect love that pours into our hearts when Jesus Christ reveals himself in our midst.
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom; and where there is freedom, there is unity.
